Immerse yourself in the 19th century at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site near this KOA. Costumed guides play Tom and Sarah Lincoln and their neighbors at the working living history farm, owned in the 1840s by Honest Abe's father and stepmother. You're only 45 miles from Arthur/Arcola, the hub of Illinois Amish country, and 30 miles from Eastern Illinois University and Lake Land College. Shaded level sites offer beautiful views of the rising and setting sun. Swim in the pool, fish and boat on the lake and play pool, volleyball and basketball. Or abandon yourself in the latest whodunit in the reading room. Weekends only (Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend), dig in to biscuits and sausage gravy on Saturdays and pancake breakfasts on Sundays. Enjoy ice cream socials Saturday nights. Celebrate July 4th by watching Casey's fireworks.

"I was too old for a new boss and too young to retire," Glenn Klinkman always said to his wife, Catherine. After leaving corporate America behind, the couple fulfilled their dreams of owning a campground when they purchased one in Casey, Illinois.

Catherine spoke about wanting a campground between Pennsylvania and the Mississippi River, but also between Florida and Michigan, so when they found their KOA in Illinois they knew it was the one for them. "We are proud of the whole thing," said Catherine of her KOA. The looks and the renovations were also notably mentioned. Catherine said the pool was re-done, as well as the deck and the fences surrounding the pool, and the main lodge was re-sided. Upgrading sites has been on the list of to-do restorations, and the process is nearly complete.

"The scenery is quaint, and there are lots of trees surrounding the individual sites. Because the town of Casey is historical, visitors are able to experience museums and antique shops. They have lots of repeat customers, and the Klinkmans continue to encourage people to come back. "We want them to be happy when they are here," said Catherine. They said they try to treat each customer equally and provide them with what they need. Employees are given the freedom to solve whatever problems arise and encouraged to keep in mind the best interests of the customers.

During spare moments, Catherine enjoys needlepoint and cross-stitching. Glenn loves computers and spends as much time as possible working with them. The couple also loves to travel to Michigan to see their children and grandchildren.

    • Casey Softball hall of HONOR & MUSEUM

The small Illinois town of Casey is rich in the tradition of amateur softball competition. For several years the pastime has been a tradition of excellence in this east-central Illinois town. Before 1976 there really was no central place dedicated to preserve the accomplishments and memories of the various Casey softball teams. On July 4, 1976, the original Casey Softball Museum was officially opened at the softball diamond in the southwest corner of Fairview Park, marking the first true location for softball history in the town. Since 1976 the little museum has undergone some renovations and expanded in size dramatically. The latest evolution was the addition of the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame Museum which was celebrated with an Open House on July 3, 2010.
